David Justin Miller was born and raised in Austin, Texas. Having grown up near Lake Austin he had the privilege of enjoying a variety of watersports and boogey boarding. David Justin Miller attended Westlake High School and participated in the information technology school mentorship program. He is currently studying for his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Texas Christian University. Here are a couple of dos and don’ts of fly fishing.
Don’t Cast Too Far
One of the common mistakes many people make is that they cast too far out. Casting far away will result in a lot of tangles and is not a good idea. Make sure you cast short and neat without too many splashes, and you will find trout coming to your line.
Don’t Use a Heavy Leader Line
Many people use 15lb mono to fish size twelve flies. This is too heavy and is not recommended. Rather, you want to use a four or five-pound line for size 12 flies. If the trout is big, you might want to use a ten-pound line, but not a 15lb line.
Take a Plastic Bag
There is nothing worse than having to carry dead fish in your car on a long drive home. Taking a plastic bag along for your fishing trip will help you put the catch in it for your trip back home.
David Justin Miller recommends keeping an eye out on the weather when you go fly fishing.
